Carole, Katherine

WERKOWICH NORTON Katherine Carole Werkowich Norton, "Katie" to those who knew her, died in the early morning hours of January 3, 2008, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer and COPD. Katie was born in Butler, Missouri, but was raised in Kansas City. For 22 years Katie worked as a seamstress in the International Garment Workers' Union, but she is best known as the owner of Katie's Alterations in Westport. There she was truly in her element, and altered the garments and lives of countless people in the best possible way. Katie is survived by her sister, Clara Conklin of Orrick, Missouri, and her brother James Collins of Warsaw, Missouri. Katie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were very special to her. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 7, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Redemptorist) Catholic Church, Broadway and Linwood, Kansas City, Mo. Davidson, Annette H.

Annette H. Davidson, 92, Lee's Summit, Mo., was born April 26, 1915, in Pleasant Hill, Mo., the daughter of Robert T. and Alice (McCalley) Hunt. She departed this life January 3, 2008, at the John Knox Village Care Center, Lee's Summit. On February 3, 1952, she was united in marriage to William C. Davidson in Pleasant Hill. Annette lived most of her life in the Kansas City metro area and Raytown until moving to John Knox Village in 1987. She graduated with honors from Pleasant Hill High School and the University of Missouri-Columbia with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. She worked for 40 years in the business offices of Fox Midwest Theatres, Clipper Mfg. Co. and retired from Commonwealth Theatres. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lee's Summit and the women's Dorcas Circle. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Roberta Knorpp, a nephew James Chester Knorpp II, a niece Helen Jo (Knorpp) McClintock and two great nephews, Tim and J.C. McClintock. She is survived by her husband, of the home; three nephews, Larry Kosfeld of Greenwood, David Kosfeld and James Kosfeld of Pleasant Hill; a niece, Malinda Neve of Pleasant Hill; a great niece, Rhonda (Knorpp) Rogge of Kansas City, Mo.; other relatives and many friends. Farley, Ivan E.

Ivan E. Farley, formerly of Leawood, KS, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Monday, January 7, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Chapel, 10507 Holmes Road. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the chapel. Ivan was born Jan. 11, 1913, in Kansas City, KS, and graduated from Smith- Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. While serving as the Assistant Director of the Quartermaster Depot in Kansas City, he met and married his wife of 59 years, Esther Zscheile. She preceded him in death in 2003. Ivan was a wheat buyer for Seaboard Allied Milling until his retirement in 1979, and was a member of the Kansas City Board of Trade. Upon retirement he became a member of Ararat Shrine and joined the Greeter Unit to which he devoted countless hours of service. Other memberships included Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge and The Retired Officers' Association, and he was a long-time member of South- Broadland Presbyterian Church. Ivan will be remembered for his integrity, honesty, unwavering optimism, and deep love of his family and his country. A daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bill Hodgson of Overland Park, grandson Daniel, grandson Michael and wife Amber, and great-granddaughter Dinah survive him. Freeman, Victor "Vick"

Victor "Vick" Freeman of Kansas City, Missouri, longtime resident of Nashua, Missouri, joined his heavenly father on January 3, 2008. Vick was born in Decatur, Nebraska, April 16, 1909. He was preceded in death by his precious wife of 61 years, Velma May Hammontree, whom he missed very much. Also preceding him were his parents, three brothers, sister and his son, Bobbie Ray Freeman. Survivors include Ronnie E Freeman and wife Dee of Corvallis, Oregon, Alice Jensen and children, Dorcie, Diana, Steve, Debra and Gary and their children, and Beth Mitchell and children, Emily, Justin and Lori, all of Kansas City. He was a self-educated, mechanically inclined individual whose pride and joy was his talent of gardening and his beautiful yard. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #101 for 68 years. He was also a longtime member of the World Wide Church of God. Friends and family may celebrate his life Monday, January 7, 2008, at Park Lawn Funeral Home at 8251 Hillcrest Road of Kansas City, Mo. Gladbach, Allen Richard

Allen Richard Gladbach, age 64, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away on January 2, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 15, 1943, in Mendon, Mo. The funeral services will be held at St. John La Lande Catholic Church in Blue Springs on Monday, January 7, at 10 a.m. Rosary will be held at St. John La Lande Catholic Church at 6 p.m. with Visitation from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 6. Humphreys, William Arthur

William Arthur Humphreys, 77, of Frontenac, Kan., died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008, in Pittsburg, Kan. He was a former resident of Overland Park, Kan., for 39 years before moving to Frontenac in 2004. William was employed by Rex Darnell Inc. Survivors include his wife Carol of Frontenac, one son and two daughters. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2008, at the South Broadway Baptist Church in Pittsburg. Kelley, Donald L.

Donald Lee Kelley, 74, of Weston, Mo., passed away on Friday, January 4, 2008. Survived by daughters, Marion Kelley- Buckle and husband, Steve, Kansas City, Mo., and Sheila Kelley-Benner and husband Jack, Platte City, Mo.; grandchildren, Archie, Derik and Angela; and seven brothers and sisters. Kirk, Elizabeth H.

Betty Kirk, 92, died at home Tuesday morning, January 1, 2008. She was born in Kansas City on November 15, 1915, to Frank and Stella Hanna. She grew up in Chicago and New York. Betty met her future husband, Jim, at the University of Illinois when he noticed her on a crowded sidewalk and followed her home. One of her lifelong traditions was celebrating the anniversary of their first date. Betty and Jim moved to Kansas City shortly after their marriage in 1936. They continued living in Kansas City through his death in March 2003. In 1945, they founded the family business, which continues successfully today as Kirk Welding Supply. They also started the Kirk Foundation, a family charitable foundation that supports many worthwhile causes mainly in the Kansas City area. Betty worked for years as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and Kansas City Hospice. She was loved and admired during her lifetime, and will be missed by those who survive her, including her sons, Phil, Frank and Mike; their wives, Judy, Nancy and Julie; her grandson, David Kirk, and his wife Molly; her granddaughter, Melinda Sanders, and her husband Robert; her granddaughter, Natalie Kirk; her grandson, Andrew Kirk, and his wife Susan; her grandson, James Kirk; her granddaughter, Kristi Kirk; and her great grandchildren, Katherine and Sam Kirk, Ryan and Ashley Sanders and Rory Kirk. Kirk, Marilyn Sue

Marilyn Sue Kirk passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with memorial services following at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 7 at Peculiar United Methodist Church located at 20521 S. School Rd. in Peculiar, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Peculiar United Methodist Church memorial fund. She was the loving wife of Whitson J. Kirk Jr. for 45 years and mother of Ann Kirk Hobert (wife of Ben Hobert) and Whitson John Kirk III (husband of Melissa Kirk). Sue also adored her two grandchildren, Hannah Christine Hobert and Henry Walter Hobert. Sue was the sister of Alan Thomas Richeson (married to Lillian Richeson) and William Dexter Richeson (married to Jilleen Richeson). She was predeceased by her parents William V. and Ina L. Richeson. Sue retired from teaching elementary school in 1994 after teaching for 35 years. Sue was known for her creative teaching of gifted and talented children, which earned her numerous awards for nutrition education. Kuster, Betty Jane

1925-2008 Born on March 23, 1925, to Leo and Anna Smith in Kansas City, Missouri. Preceded in death by her parents; brother Leonard Smith; sister May Dean Fahey; brother-in-law Bill Fahey, and former husband Robert Kuster. Betty graduated from Central High School and was also a member of her Christian church fellowship- the "Criterion Group", both of Kansas City. She kept in touch with her alumni until her passing. Her life-long passion and vocation was the study, teaching and performance of dance. She trained many students in both Kansas CityBin, her own studio, and also here in Tucson at the Fritschy Academy of Dance. She also performed on live television in the early 40s. Betty is survived by her son David R. Kuster, daughter-in-law Cherry R. Kuster; nieces: Jackie Fahey, Ruth Ann Wein; nephew-in-law, Jerome Wein; great nephew Matthew Seymour; great great niece Caitlyn Seymour; great niece Deborah Perkerson and her husband Douglas; their children Nathaniel and Zachary, and step grandson Dominic Hermosillo. Lassiter, Betty Nelle

(FARNSWORTH) Betty Nelle Lassiter (Farnsworth) left this world on December 31, 2007. She was born April 6, 1927, in Powersville, Mo., to Lewis and Effie Farnsworth. She was reunited in heaven with her husband of 59 years, Kenneth E. (Jack) Lassiter, her mother, and brother, Robert Farnsworth. Betty is survived by her sister, Martha Arnall of Grandview; son, Ken S. Lassiter (wife Debbie) of Bentonville, Arkansas; daughter, Jan Thate (husband Greg) of Florissant, Mo. She also leaves five grandchildren, Brian Lassiter (wife Gianna) of Minneapolis, Minn., Megan McQuerry of Blue Springs, Michael Thate of Florissant, Olivia Lassiter and Hannah Lassiter of Bentonville. She also leaves two great grandchildren, Alex and Maria Lassiter of Minneapolis. Also left on earth are her nephew, Dave Arnall (wife Sandy) of Peculiar, and close family friends Ron, Cheryl and Brian Hodge of Lee's Summit. Betty graduated from East High School in 1945 and remained active with class reunion activities. She worked for AT&T as a long distance operator and for Monarch Egg Company, but spend most of her time at home as a loving wife and mother. She also did a variety of volunteer work over the years and she enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing bridge and bowling. Marshall, Patricia A.

Patricia A. Marshall, 56, of Independence, Mo., passed away January 2, 2008. Visitation will be at the Sheil Colonial Chapel on Monday, January 7, from 6-8 p.m., with rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 8, at 10 a.m. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Patricia was a lifelong resident of the metropolitan area and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. She was a teacher for St. Ann's and St. Bernadette's Catholic grade schools, retired in 2003, and most recently taught at the Sylvan Learning Centers. Patricia will be fondly recalled by her peers and students as the "Dino Lady" due to her love and passion of the Prehistoric world. She was a member of the Dahlia Society, the KC Garden Club and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Patricia loved the Wizard of Oz and was an avid viewer from the age of 6. Patricia is survived by her husband of 36 years, Victor Marshall of the home; two sons, Jason D. Marshall of Warrensburg, Mo., and Jeffrey A. (Amy R.) Marshall of Independence, Mo.; grandchildren Pruedynce I., Daemyon X., Jaushua A., and Lukys I.W., and a brother, Bob O'Donnell.

Meyn, Fredrick A.

Fredrick Alan Meyn, 43, of Olathe, Kan., passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs, Kan., with burial to follow in Leavenworth V.A. National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan. The family will receive friends at the visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening, January 8, 2008, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the D.A.V. in care of the funeral home. Fred was born August 14, 1964, at the Jacksonville, Florida Naval Hospital, son of Paul W. Meyn, Sr. and June McDaniel of Chesapeake, Va. He graduated from the Basehor school system and entered the Navy shortly after. He was stationed at the DesSubPiers until he was struck by a car at the main gate. He remained in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital for an extended period and upon release lived with his mother and stepfather in Chesapeake, Va. He moved to the Kansas City area and was employed by the U.S. Post Office until his untimely death. He is survived by his wife, Olga Meyn, two sons, Dima and Steven; his father, Paul Meyn, Sr. and stepmother, Ruth Meyn; his mother June McDaniel and stepfather Roy McDaniel; two sisters, Chris Hilborn and her husband Dennis and Beverly Vautrinot, and one brother, Paul Meyn, Jr. He is also survived by numerous relatives from Ruth's side of the family. Miller, Mary Katherine

Mary Katherine Miller, 68, of Pleasant Hill, Mo., passed away on December 16, 2007. In lieu of lowers, the family requests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice. Mary was born August 6, 1939. She was the daughter of Harry B. and Mona J. Smith. She resided in Pleasant Hill, Mo., but had lived in Stockton, Mo., and Omaha, Nebraska. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and antique furniture. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Miller; her parents; and two sisters, Geneva White and Maxine Bailey. She is survived by one brother, Harry D. Molen, Mary Elizabeth

Mary E. Molen, 81, of Girard died at 9:10 P.M. Wednesday January 2, 2008 at Pleasant Hill Resident, Girard, IL. She was born October 26, 1926 in Greenville, Illinois the daughter of John & Alice (Schlup) Rooney. She married Sam Molen on August 31, 1978 in Ocala, FL. he survives. Mary worked at the Southgate Bank in Kansas City, MO as a Bank Marketing Officer. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Girard. She is survived by her husband, Sam; daughter, Nikki Lynne (husband, Charlie) Muir Rogers of Lewistown, Montana; grandsons, Matthew Thomas and Ty Nicholas Konitz and 2 nieces. Services will start at Noon today, Saturday, at the First Christian Church with Rev. Dick Whitworth officiating. James M. Oxley, age 66, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2008, at home. He was born on February 14, 1941, in Cheboygan, Mich., one of 16 children- nine brothers and six sisters. Norma Lee Niedner, 69, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed to her eternal glory on Thursday, January 3, 2008. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park, Kansas. Norma was born on July 13, 1938, in Lamar, Missouri. She was baptized as an infant at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood. She was a parochial teacher and school organizer in Fort Wayne, Indiana, an educator in the Blue Valley School District, and the founding principal of the Christian day school at Bethany Lutheran Church. She was active in Bethany's social ministry, and in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Edward C. Von Stroh and Hulda A. (Mein) Von Stroh, and one brother Lonnie Jean Von Stroh. She is survived by her husband, Bill, of the home; her son Nathan Summers and his wife Donielle; her daughter Carrie Hunt and her husband Russell; a step son Walter Niedner and wife Heather, of New York City, and a step son Chris Niedner, of Overland Park, KS. Four grand children, Georgia, Trevor, Hal, and Niamh. On June 18, 1959, Frank married Nancy Colleen (Dinwiddie). The couple made their home in the Independence/Kansas City area for over 45 years. Frank worked for General Motors for 25 years, until his retirement in 1982. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Thurman. Hawley, Thorne Gray

July 6, 1920 - Dec. 30, 2007 Thorne Hawley, 87, died peacefully on Sunday at her daughter's home on Mercer Island, Washington. Born in Michigan to a newspaper family, Thorne was one of three children. As a college student, Thorne studied music and journalism at Northwestern and Vassar. Shortly after the end of WWII, Thorne married David C. Hawley of Kansas City. Except for a 10-year period in which David was the Ford dealer in Warsaw, Missouri, Kansas City remained the family home. Thorne lived a busy and fulfilling life as an active member in her church, a volunteer at Operation Breakthrough and a contributor to many charitable organizations. She is survived by her brother, Whitmore Gray of Ann Arbor, Michigan; her children, Roger Hawley of Kansas City, Missouri, Harriet Morton of Mercer Island, Washington, Charles Hawley of Englewood, Colorado, and George Hawley of Snohomish, Washington; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Thorne was a spiritual inspiration who touched the lives of many. She will be greatly missed and long remembered. Rita Maureen Kaul, 71, Kansas City, died on December 31, 2007 at North Kansas City Hospital. Rita was born September 21, 1936 in St. Louis to Robert & Marjorie Sullivan. She received her physical therapy degree from St. Louis University. She married Ken in 1960 and devoted her life to raising her six children. After her children were grown, she spent many years volunteering with children through CASA (Clay County) and the Family Friends program at Children's Mercy Hospital. She also worked for the I.R.S. for ten years where she loved cooking for her co-workers. Rita was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Ken, and grandson, Patrick. LASSITER Betty Nelle Lassiter (Farnsworth) left this world on December 31, 2007. She was born April 6, 1927 in Powersville, MO to Lewis and Effie Farnsworth. She was reunited in heaven with her husband of 59 years, Kenneth E. (Jack) Lassiter, her mother and brother, Robert Farnsworth. Betty is survived by her sister, Martha Arnall of Grandview; son, Ken S. Lassiter (wife Debbie) of Bentonville, Arkansas; daughter, Jan Thate (husband Greg) of Florissant, MO. She also leaves five grandchildren, Brian Lassiter (wife Gianna) of Minneapolis, MN; Megan McQuerry of Blue Springs; Michael Thate of Florissant; Olivia Lassiter and Hannah Lassiter of Bentonville. She also leaves two great-grand children Alex and Maria Lassiter of Minneapolis. Also left on earth are her nephew, Dave Arnall (wife Sandy) of Peculiar, and close family friends Ron, Cheryl and Brian Hodge of Lee's Summit. Betty graduated from East High School in 1945 and remained active with class reunion activities. She worked for AT&T as a long distance operator and for Monarch Egg Company, but spend most of her time at home as a loving wife and mother. She also did a variety of volunteer work over the years and she enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing bridge and bowling. Beverly Lehr, 80, passed away January 1, 2008, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas, of heart failure after a short illness. MALINOWSKI Mary Lou Marshall Malinowski, 76, died January 2, 2008. She will be remembered as a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She cherished the 56 years spent alongside her dear husband, Chet Malinowski. Longtime residents of Shawnee, Kansas, Mary Lou and Chet happily raised their five children with faith in God, love of family and a hard work ethic. Patricia A. Marshall, 56, of Independence, Mo., passed away January 2, 2008. Olivet Cemetery. Patricia was a lifelong resident of the metropolitan area and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. She was a teacher for St. Ann's and St. Bernadette's Catholic grade schools, retired in 2003, and most recently taught at the Slyvan Learning Centers. Patricia will be fondly recalled by her peers and students as the "Dino Lady" due to her love and passion of the Prehistoric world. She was a member of the Dahlia Society, the KC Garden Club and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Patricia loved the Wizard of Oz and was an avid viewer from the age of 6. Patricia is survived by her husband of 36 years, Victor Marshall of the home; two sons, Jason D. Marshall of Warrensburg, Mo., and Jeffrey A. (Amy R.) McDaniel, Steward M.

Steward M. McDaniel, 89, formerly of California, Mo., passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2007, at his home in Goleta, Calif. He was born on July 9, 1918 in Fortuna, Mo., the son of Dick and Elsie Milburn McDaniel, who preceded him in death. He was married to Marjorie McKee on August 10, 1941 at the First Baptist Church in Centertown, Mo. He is survived by his wife Marjorie of Goleta, Calif., son Stuart Keith of Santa Barbara, Calif., daughter Carol Dietrich and her husband Michael of Overland Park, Kansas, grandchildren Lisa Holliday and Christopher Dietrich, great grandchildren Kristina, Svetlana and Victoria Holliday and a brother, J.L. McDaniel of Otterville, Mo. Steward graduated from Warrensburg Teachers College in 1941 and Central Baptist Seminary in 1950 after serving in the U.S. Army during WWII as a chaplain. He was an ordained Baptist minister for over 70 years serving churches in Missouri, Kansas and Iowa. He and his family moved to Goleta, Calif., in 1965, where he served as Regional Director of the World Mission Campaign for the American Baptist Churches, USA. He served as Area Minister for the American Baptist Churches of the Pacific Southwest from 1970 until his retirement in 1983. He was the superintendent of Jamestown School and was also a school teacher. He was in the California Masonic Lodge #183, where he received his 50-year pin. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services. Officiating will be Dr. Heather Entrekin. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery in California, Mo. C. Jane Nance, 71, of Pittsburg, died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center. She was born on June 18, 1936, in Wichita, Kansas to Kenneth and Cloris M. Swartz Johnson. At age 3, her family moved to Kansas City. She graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City; attended the University of Kansas (a family tradition), pledged the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. On August 30, 1957, she married David R. Nance. They moved several times during their 50 years of marriage - living and working in Cleveland and Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Decatur, Alabama; St. Louis, Missouri; North Muskegon, Michigan; and Pittsburg, Kansas. She is survived by her husband, David Nance, two sons, Christopher and his wife Mignon, Kenneth and his wife Zoe, and two grandchildren, Sophie and Arielle. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (January 5) at Brenner Mortuary with Rev. Ken Butts, of College Heights United Methodist Church, officiating. Pratt, Thomas K.

Thomas K Pratt, 75, Leawood, Kansas passed away January 2, 2008 at St. Luke's South Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on January 4, 1932 in Colby, KS. He was raised in Colby and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1955, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. After graduation, Tom served in the U.S. Army Finance Corps until 1957. He then returned to Colby and eventually took over ownership of Pratt Hardware from his father. While in Colby, Tom was active in community and civic leadership activities, which included President of the Colby City Council, Colby College Board of Trustees and Republican County Chairman. Other community activities included service as President of the Colby Chamber of Commerce, President of Colby Development, Inc., Board of Trustees for the Colby College Endowment Association, and President of the Thomas County KU Alumni Society. He was also a member of the Colby Rotary and Shrine Clubs, and the Board of Trustees of Colby Community College Endowment Association. Some of his awards include Distinguished Jayhawker by the Governor of Kansas, Outstanding Young Man of Colby Jaycees and a Distinguished Service Award by Kansas State Jaycees. Tom married Gretchen Isern in 1984 and eventually retired to Tucson, Arizona. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Pratt and his daughter Judith Toburen. He is survived by his wife, Gretchen, and his children Margaret Pratt, Mission, KS, Kelly Pratt, Overland Park, KS, Susan Buck (Ken), Wilmington, DE, Tom Pratt (Sharon), Chicago, IL, and his brother J.R. "Dick" Pratt (Nancy), Topeka, KS. He is also survived by his stepchildren Betsy Guthrie (Steve), Mission, KS, Amy Mulich (Mike), Molly Curtis (Scott), both of Louisburg, KS and Chad Isern, Columbia, SC. Raymond, Theodore Logan

Theodore Logan Raymond, 90, of Palm Harbor, Fla., passed away Dec. 29, 2007. Born in Kansas City, Mo., a graduate of the Univ. of Kansas, partner in the family retail furniture business, he served as a Reserve Army 1st Lt. in WWII and Korea, being awarded the Bronze Star. An avid outdoorsman, Ted was active in Boy Scout Leadership and sailed competitively in Lightning class with his family. After living 34 years in Prairie Village, Kan., he and his wife moved in 1987 to Palm Harbor, where he was a member of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Nina E. of 62 years; daughter, Wendy and her husband Prof. F. J. Pinne III; granddaughter, Jean and her husband Dr. Justin Anderson; great- grandsons, Johnathan and Joshua of Lawrence, Kan.; and son, Dale Raymond, his wife Ileana of Boca Raton, Fla.; and a sister, Nadine Lewis. After marrying, she was a full-time homemaker as well as a veterinary assistant to Hubert's veterinary practice in Buckner, MO. Geraldine attended First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. Winkler, Grace Kay

Grace Kay Winkler of Kansas City, Kansas died on January 2, 2008. Born Grace Koger in Norwich, Kansas, on April 6, 1918 to Elmer Koger and Essie Cross Koger. She graduated from Cheney, Kansas high school and received an Associate Degree from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. She met her husband, Harry James Winkler, while living at the Country Club Plaza in 1940. They were married October 17, 1941 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Kansas City, Kansas. She worked with her husband in their family business, Winkler's Diamonds, until her retirement in 2000. She was active in many social and philanthropic organizations, a member of PEO, the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Kansas City, Missouri, and was President of the Kansas City, Kansas Junior League in 1957- 58. She is survived by her husband, Harry James Winkler, her two children, H. James Winkler II and Nancy Kathleen Fortier, her sister Mildred Kathleen Worley, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A private family service will be held on Saturday, January 5. The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Jean Winkler, 80, who died at 6:15 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, in Ross Hall at the Mother House of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. Mary Patricia Winkler was born in Joplin, Missouri on July 31, 1927, to James W. and Margaret A. McKiernan Winkler, and was raised in Wichita and Topeka, KS, where she graduated from Capitol Catholic (Hayden) High School in 1945. Mary Patricia entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on September 16, 1945 and, as Sister Mary Jean, made her profession of vows on September 17, 1947. During her fist 28 years as an SCL, Sister Jean taught children from grades 1-8 in parish schools in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Montana, and Colorado. She received a B.S. in Education from the University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth, KS, and an M.A. in Religious Education from the University of St. Thomas, Houston, TX. By 1975, new "needs of the times" called to S. Jean. She heard, she prepared, and she served for the next 30 years in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Montana, Colorado, Missouri, and Kansas as a religion teacher and director of religious education programs; as pastoral associate or assistant in small parishes; as hospital chaplain; as visitor to the homebound and those in nursing homes; as consultant in a diocesan resource center; and as simply a caring person to those in need. She retired to the Mother House/Ross Hall in 2003. Survivors include cousins, numerous friends, and her SCL community. A vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, in Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated in Ross Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. Woods, Edith Stein

Edith Stein Woods, age 101, of Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday, December 30, 2007, at the Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg, Mo. No visitation will be held. She will be buried in Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. Mrs. Woods was born February 28, 1906, in Fort Madison, Iowa. For a number of years during the 1920s and 1930s she worked as one of the "Harvey Girls" for the Fred Harvey Restaurants in Arizona and in Kansas City. For 66 years, from 1936 until 2002, she resided in the 4100 block of Walnut Street in Kansas City. She gained a reputation in the Westport area for her beautiful roses, which she grew in her front yard. People in the locality referred to her as the "Rose Lady". She also was known in the neighborhood for her keen sense of humor and for being a friend to everyone. Many a stray cat or dog found its way to her front door where it often found a home. Therefore, for memorial gifts, the family suggests contributions to the Humane Society. She is survived by a son, Everett, of Warrensburg, Mo., a son, Roger, of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandsons; two granddaughters; four great grandsons, and two great granddaughters.

Bisaha, Dr. Martin Michael

Dr. Martin Michael Bisaha of Albuquerque, N.M. died December 27, 2007, from diabetic complications. He was born October 20, 1931, in Perth Amboy, N.J. to Martin and Mary Bisaha. He was the baby of 10 and the only one to head west. He attended the University of Kansas, earning both bachelor's and master's degrees in Special Education. In addition, he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College. He attended a dance in Kansas City with a fraternity brother and met the love of his life, Marita Lynch. They were married July 4, 1957. The army stationed him in Germany, where they lived the next two years. Back in the states, they had three beautiful daughters, Kathy, Ann and Marcia. Sadly and unexpectedly, Marita died in 1979, leaving Marty with three teenage daughters. In 1984, he married Jody Fossey and moved to Branson, Mo. Several years later, they moved to Albuquerque. Survivors include his wife Jody and his stepson Reed of the home, his sister Josephine Kowalczyk and husband Hank of Somerville, N.J., daughters, Dr. Katherine Smith and Craig, Ann Park and Danny, Marcia Lennon and Cory, many nieces and nephews, nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter. His wife Marita, his parents, five sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5, at noon, at St. Thomas More Parish. Thomas E. "Tom" Botz, 83, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Monday, December 31, 2007, at his home. Tom was born January 14, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, flying "PBYs" in the South Pacific. Tom worked as a police officer for the Kansas City Police Department and later began his own general construction contracting company. He was a member of the Dwight Cowles Post of the American Legion. Golf was his hobby and passion. Tom was proud of the fact that he scored two hole-in-ones in his career. William Brian Buell of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 31, 2007. Bill was 55 years old. For the past eight years Bill worked as a senior counselor for Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. His career with Vocational Rehabilitation involved evaluating and providing assistance to clients with Traumatic Brain Injury. Bill was born October 12, 1952, in Meridan, Connecticut as the youngest son of Robert K. and Ruth W. Buell. Bill attended public schools in Meridan, Conn., Kansas City, Mo., and Jefferson City, Mo. He earned two bachelor of science degrees, in Sociology and Psychology. He also completed a master of education degree in the area of Guidance and Counseling at Lincoln University. Bill is survived by his parents, two older brothers, Robert S. Buell of Hot Springs, Ark., and Gregory R. Buell of Boulder, Colo. He is also survived by numerous personal friends and professional colleagues who will greatly miss his friendship and humor. Charles M. "Chuck" Clements, 52, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 31, 2007 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the chapel. Chuck was born June 12, 1955 in Independence, MO to John and Bettie (Adcock) Clements and has been a lifelong area resident graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1973. He had worked in the forklift industry for over 30 years most recently for Oram Material Handling in Kansas City, KS. Chuck was a fun loving man who enjoyed NASCAR, boating, golf and spending time with his family. He was married to Roxann "Evon" Heitman on August 14, 1976, she survives of the home. Elliott, Robert "Gene"

Robert Eugene "Gene" Elliott age 79, of Louisburg, Ks passed away Jan. 1, 2008. Gene was born Oct. 2, 1928 in Grand Pass, Mo. to Robert and Elva Fowler Elliott. He was united in marriage to Edith Crain on March 19, 1959 in Sedalia, Mo. Gene worked as a Professional Insurance Agent founding the Elliott Insurance Group in 1974. Prior to this he worked for Farmers Insurance for 20 years. And along with his wife Edith, they owned and operated Elliott's Laundry and Dry Cleaning from 1968 to 1978. Through out the years Gene has been an integral part of his community and many organizations. Serving as Pres. of The Chamber of Commerce in 1974-76, being elected to City Council in 1977 and in 1979 elected to serve as mayor. He was instrumental in founding the Louisburg Recreation Assoc. In the early 1980's he helped to found the Rural Water District #4 and later served on the board. Gene was a member of the Louisburg Masonic Peace Lodge #243 and served as Master in 1993. He was also a member of the Scottish and York Rites and of the Louisburg Shrine Club and Abdallah Shrine Temple. He was a founding member of the Rotary Club in Louisburg serving as President in 2005. Gene served on the board and twice as president for the Professional Insurance Agents of Kansas and served on the board of the Bank of Louisburg. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church since 1967 holding many different positions and jobs. Gene's great work earned him many awards through out the years, some of which are; the Louisburg Chamber Citizen of the year award in 1997, in 1998 he was the Agent of the year for the Professional Insurance Agents of Kansas. In 2002 he was the Quiet Rotarian and in 2007 he was awarded the Paul Harris Award. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Allen Eugene "Rocky" Elliott, and a son-in-law Don Kaiser. He is survived by his wife Edith of the home in Louisburg, Ks, by his daughter Sue Knop and husband Wayne of Louisburg, and by daughter Lesa Kaiser of Waverly, Mo, and by his son Rick Elliott and wife Kathy of Louisburg. And by his grandchildren; Curt and Bryan Knop and Brock & Lindsey Elliott all of Louisburg, and Kristin Dotson Warner of Waverly, Mo., Jeff Elliott of Sedalia, Mo., and Shannon Kaiser and Kalyn Davidson of Columbia, Mo. and Ryan Kaiser of KC, Mo. He is also survived by his sisters; Faye Lawson of Waverly, Fern Deatherage and her husband Wayne of Waverly, Joyce Webb and her husband Lee of Carrolton, Mo., and a sister-in-law Vivian Crain of Springfield, Mo. Mrs. Richard Everist (Lea), age 83, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2007 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. The Everist's resided in Sioux City, Iowa until 1977, when they moved to Long Beach, California for business reasons. Lea and Rick moved to Leawood, Kansas in 1995 in order to be closer to their families. She was a member of the Church of the Nativity, Leawood, Kansas, where a Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday January 2nd at 4:00 pm. Survivors include her husband Rick, sister Dorothy Henry, Sioux City, IA, six children: Barbara (Bernie) Jung of Kansas City, MO; Dianne (Bill) Ryan of Prairie Village, KS; Juliana (Ed) Webb Highland, KS; Richard Everist Jr. (Michal) Denver, CO; Janet (David) Pynn Tulsa, OK; and Robert (Joette), Dell Rapids, SD and eighteen grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Helen Lohr, her brother, Richard Henry and a daughter, Ellen Marie Johnson. At her request, her remains have been donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Lea was a deeply caring and loving wife and mother. She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her enthusiastic love of life and will be missed by many. Garcia, David Louis Tomas

1927 - 2007 David Louis Tomas Garcia passed away on December 29, 2007, in Olathe, Kan. David was born June 9, 1927, in Folsom, New Mexico to Clorinda Martinez and Jose Florencio Garcia. He spent his childhood years with his mother, stepfather Enrique Gonzales, and four siblings in New Mexico, and his teen years with his father, sister and stepfamily in Montana. At age 17, David enlisted in the Navy and served during World War II. On August 23, 1952, David was united in marriage to Roberta ("Bobbie") Lee Ferguson at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo. David is survived by his wife, Bobbie, of Olathe, Kan., four daughters and four sons, 24 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Cathy (Curt) Johnson of KCMO, Eddie (Ronda) Garcia of LSMO, David (Kari) Garcia of LSMO, Robert Garcia of KCMO, Christy (Allen) Green of Nashville, TN, Terri (Leonard) Marks of OPKS, Diana Dusselier of OPKS, and Danny (Shelly) Garcia of KCMO.
