SMITHVILLE, Missouri: Construction has begun on the 180th Street Bridge in Smithville, Mo. The bridge is about a half mile east of U.S. 169 on Northeast 180th Street, a main roadway to Smithville Lake and several subdivisions. Detours are posted for motorists traveling to these areas.
This project represents a joint effort between City of Smithville and Clay County, who will share 20 percent of the construction expenses. The City of Smithville will pay an estimated $90,905 of the total cost and Clay County will pay an estimated $25,000. Missouri Department of Transportation will reimburse Clay County for 80 percent of the cost at $463,619. The total cost for engineering and construction is $579,524.
Through the competitive bidding process, Widel, Inc., Blackwater, Mo., was chosen as the lowest and best bidder. The Clay County Commission approved the contract at its Dec. 1 meeting. McDonald & Warger, Liberty, Mo., was the project engineer.
The project is expected to be completed by mid April next year.
