The SkyCast is the air quality forecast for the Kansas City region and is issued each afternoon by 3:00 p.m. From April 1 through October 31, the SkyCast reflects anticipated concentrations of ground-level ozone. From November 1 through March 31, the SkyCast indicates the extent to which air quality is likely to be impaired by fine particles. Ozone and fine particles differ in their chemical composition, but both can cause respiratory problems, especially for the very young, the elderly, and those who suffer from asthma and other respiratory illnesses. By following the SkyCast, area residents can take steps to protect their health when poor air quality is expected.
