Speed limit to change on Kansas Street

LIBERTY, Mo.- In an effort to minimize degradation of a section of Kansas Street and to reduce the speed of traffic, the City of Liberty will reduce the speed limit between Fairview and Gallatin beginning Tuesday, February 19.

The City will implement a 90-day temporary traffic regulation during which time the speed will be reduced from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour for all vehicles, with the exception of those with three or more axles. For these larger vehicles, the speed limit will be reduced to 20 miles per hour. Signs with the new speed limit will be posted beginning February 19.

Residents along this stretch of Kansas have voiced concerns about the speed limit and the impact of heavy truck traffic. The City has determined that 20-25 large vehicles, including trucks with three or more axles, travel this route each day.

If it is determined through staff review and citizen feedback that the speed limit reduction is effective, a permanent change to the speed limit will be brought before the City Council for approval in May.
