Sick Raccoons Turn Up In Liberty

Residents Asked To Report Sick Animals

Liberty, Mo. -- Liberty Animal Control is warning residents about sick raccoons.

Animal Control said a number of sick raccoons have been picked up in the past month. Authorities said ill raccoons exhibit symptoms commonly associated with canine distemper. Animals with the canine distemper virus can become disoriented and come out during the daytime.

As the disease progresses, the raccoons may appear calm, but they can become aggressive if approached.

Animal Control said people should stay away from sick raccoons and keep their animals away.

Anyone who sees a sick raccoon is asked to call the Liberty Police Department at 816-439-4701.
