RideShare offers customized carpool matching and tracking tools for employers
|
As gas prices hover around $4 a gallon, commuting costs are becoming a top concern for employers as well as employees. Establishing a robust alternative transportation program is an effective way for a company to attract and retain skilled employees and make company practices more sustainable.
The Mid-America Regional Council's RideShare program has developed a new service for companies that want to support affordable commute practices. Employers can now request that RideShare's Carpool Connection online matching tool be customized for their organization, giving employees the ability to search for someone to share the ride both within their own company and in the regional database.
"Carpool Connection is especially useful for people who commute 20, 30 or 40 miles or more one way," said Marge Gasnick, RideShare program manager. "A significant amount of their income is spent on transportation, and when gas prices go up, they are especially hard hit."
RideShare's employer module includes a calendar feature where employees can record their commute activities, such as carpooling, vanpooling, riding the bus, bicycling, walking and telecommuting. Trips recorded on the calendar are rolled into reports for the employer to see how many miles of driving have been reduced, as well as reductions in ozone-forming and greenhouse gas emissions.
RideShare is a publicly funded program that provides commuter resources to individuals and employers in the metro area, helping to make often costly transportation decisions more affordable for workers.
