Libraries Offer Books On MP3 Players

Each Playaway Is Its Own Book
Now you can get something else for free at your library that you may not have known about before -- books on MP3 players.
"It's nice. I'll get a book I would not necessarily read. But I'll listen to it that way," library patron Donna Holt said.
The MP3 player preloaded with a book is called a playaway. Each playaway is its own book.
"It can slip into my pocket. Earphones on. I can walk around. If the book is really good and I get to work and can't stay in my car any longer, which happens often, I put it in my pocket, walk into the building, then turn it off when I get in there," Holt said.
Playaways can also plug into your car with an auxiliary cable so you can listen to the book while you drive, KMBC's Donna Pitman reported.
"We've had them eight months now. They're doing well. Up to 100 titles so far," said David Thomas, of the Kansas City, Kan., Public Library.
"I don't have to watch TV, pay attention to anything. I can just listen to my book while I'm in there cooking. At night, nothing on TV, I'm in the kitchen and my book is on," Holt said.
Pitman reported that the Kansas City, Mo., Public Library also has playaways. Check to see if your local libraries carry them.
