Well, Liberty, you did it again! In 2011, residents increased the amount they recycled over 2010 by 292.55 TONS and decreased the amount of trash they sent to the landfill by 1,174.51 TONS!
Since the City of Liberty implemented a more robust curbside trash and recycling program in early 2010, those numbers are even more dramatic. In the past two years, Liberty residents have:
- increased recycling by 664 tons or 70 percent and
- reduced their trash by nearly 2,561 tons or 29 percent!
Thanks to residents' recycling efforts, the City received more than $45,000 through the recycling rebate for 2011. This has been rolled back into the solid waste management program giving residents a 2 percent reduction in solid waste collection rates for 2012.
