Drivers Take Note - New stop signs going in on Withers |
|
With the change in school boundaries going into effect in Fall 2009, more students will be walking to Liberty Middle School and needing to cross Withers Road at Holt.
To ensure student safety, the City will implement a 90-day temporary traffic regulation during which time motorists will need to be aware of two new stop signs on Withers Road at the Liberty Community Center/Liberty Middle School entrance and Holt Drive. |

From the Clay County Public Health Center |
|
Clay County Public Health Center is working closely with federal, state and local public health agencies to track the progress and severity of swine flu, a non-seasonal variety of flu that is spreading across the globe. Currently there are no cases of swine influenza being reported in Clay County and one case in the State of Missouri. This can be expected to change at any time and we all should be prepared for and expect these numbers to increase. What you can do to stay healthy - Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. - Wash your hands often with soap and warm water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective. - Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way. - Try to avoid close contact with sick people. Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people. If you get sick, the Center for Disease Control recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others. For more information, visit www.clayhealth.com on a regular basis. The Health Center will be updating local and regional information as it is received. |

Senior Homeowners Benefit from Partnership! |
|
Clay County Senior Services (CCSS), an organization that provides effective and quality programs to support seniors, along with Rebuilding Together Liberty, Good Samaritan Center, Northland Neighborhoods, Inc., and Shepherd's Center of the Northland are partnering to provide minor home repairs for qualified residents. The focus of this program is to reduce the number of falls and accidents by improving safety in the home.
CCSS provides the funding required, and the partners use volunteers and contractors to complete the repairs. By using volunteers and contractors (who give discounted labor fees), the partners are able to drastically increase the value of every dollar that is donated. Recently, Clay County was identified as having one of the highest levels of accidents in the home in the state of Missouri. This Minor Home Repair Program is a direct attempt to reduce those numbers by helping our seniors who are living in dangerous conditions.
The guidelines for receiving repairs are: 1. Seniors must be Clay County residents, 60 or older. 2. Seniors must be homeowners with a current homeowner's insurance policy. 3. Seniors must meet specific income eligibility guidelines (may be a co-pay on a sliding scale basis according to the level of income). 4. Emphasis is on safety related repairs. Applications for repairs can be obtained by contacting Rebuilding Together Liberty at 781-8985, or any of the partners listed. |

Liberty Senior Travelers plan a Grandparents Trip for June 17 |
|
The Liberty Parks and Recreation Department is now taking registration for a June 17 Liberty Travelers trip. It is an opportunity for Grandparents to bring their grandkids along on a special trip.
Come spend a day in the country and experience the fun of fishing and the farm. You can participate in a fishing clinic (poles and bait provided), hike a nature trail and watch the birds at a Missouri Conservation Site. Bring your own picnic lunch, drinks will be provided and we'll eat under the trees.
After lunch we'll visit a working dairy, the Shatto Milk Company. You'll be able to see calves and learn more about cows, their diet and how they are milked. Watch how milk is processed and packaged in the Shatto glass bottles as seen in local grocery stores. Children 16 or older need to have current fishing permit prior to the trip. It is recommended that each child bring their own lifejacket.
Fee for residents is $35, or $30 for Liberty Community Center Members through the member rewards program. Price includes transportation, fishing clinic, tour, and driver gratuity. Registration deadline is May 15 or to the first 40 registrants. Bus departs at 8:30 a.m. from the LibertyCommunity Center, 1600 S. Withers Rd.
