Mayor speaks of successes and challenges at annual state of the city address
Mayor Mike Boehm spoke of partnership, community, involvement, investment, and commitment when describing city accomplishments and successes of the previous year and the challenges the city faces due to the economy.
“These words mean something very real in Lenexa,” he said. “I witness this over and over as I work with the various groups that make up our community.”
Mayor Boehm highlighted numerous successes including the following:
• The community’s strategic planning process, Vision 2030
• Citizens’ show of support for the community by passing a 3/8-cent sales tax for roads, parks and a new civic center
• The opening of the city’s premier Rain to Recreation project, Lake Lenexa and Black Hoof Park
• Several important road projects throughout the city
• New safety initiatives
• Sustainability efforts to save money and ensure quality, and
• Numerous development projects in spite of the struggling economy.
In addition to the successes, the mayor also spoke about challenges the city is facing due to the economy.
“Lenexa continues to remain in a strong financial position thanks to our commitment to careful planning, conservative forecasting, and our prudent reserve policy; however, several factors that are beyond our control will impact our budget significantly,” he said.
Mayor Boehm delivered the speech at the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce meeting on Feb. 18. The entire speech is available on the web.
