City hosts Black History Month celebration |
City of Kansas City, Mo., employees will host a Black History Month kick-off celebration Feb. 3 from 11 a.m. until noon in the first floor rotunda at City Hall, 414 E. 12th St.
As part of the celebration, the U.S. Postal Service will unveil the 32nd stamp in its Black Heritage series. The new stamp features Julia Cooper (1858-1964), who was an educator, scholar, feminist and activist for African American communities. Cooper is known for her leadership from the end of slavery to the start of the civil rights movement.
Mayor Pro Tem Bill Skaggs, City Manager Wayne A. Cauthen and City Councilmembers will be on hand to commemorate the event.
City employees also will host a Black History Month celebration Feb. 23 at the GEM Theater.
