Heat Advisory Issued

For Tuesday

Health experts recommend the following to stay cool:

  • Choose non-alcohol and caffeine-free liquids, such as water and juice, to quench your thirst. Drink more fluids, and don't wait until you're thirsty to drink.
  • If possible, schedule outdoor activities before noon or in the evening.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
  • When working in the heat, monitor the condition of your co-workers, and have someone do the same for you.

The Johnson County, Kan., Library said its 13 library branches will be open as cooling shelters during normal business hours.

Visit The Mid-Continent Public Libraries to get out of the heat.

The Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center in Mission, Kan., has opened as a cooling shelter through June 24. The center is open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Salvation Army said it will open eight cooling stations if and when a heat warning is issued or when the heat index reaches or is expected to reach 105 degrees at KCI Airport by 11 a.m. The following Salvation Army locations will be designated as official cooling stations:

  • Bellefontaine, 3013 E. 9th St., KCMO
  • Blue Valley, 6618 Truman Rd., KCMO
  • Grandview, 6111 E. 129th St., Grandview, MO
  • Independence, 14700 E. Truman Rd., Independence, MO
  • Kansas City, KS, 6723 State Ave., KCK
  • Northland, 5306 N. Oak Trafficway, KCMO
  • Olathe, 420 E. Santa Fe, Olathe, KS

"Laws are made for men of ordinary understanding and should, therefore, be construed by the ordinary rules of common sense. Their meaning is not to be sought for in metaphysical subtleties which may make anything mean everything or nothing at pleasure."
