Free Youth Fishing Clinic
Scheduled for Rocky Hollow, Smithville Lake
SMITHVILLE, Mo.: There’s nothing like the face of a kid who just caught his first fish. That’s just one reason Clay County Parks partnered with the Missouri Department of Conservation to host the Clay County Youth Fish Clinics from 8 a.m. to noon, April 24 at Rocky Hollow Park and May 22 at Smithville Lake.
“Fishing is a lifetime recreational activity that most people have enjoyed at one time or another,” said Clay County Park Ranger Caleb Jeffries. “The Youth Fish Clinic we are sponsoring with the Department of Conservation will provide a comprehensive program to children ages 7 to 14. The program will teach the importance of fish identification, casting, knot tying, bait and tackle, regulations, and good conservation practices related to fishing. Our goal through this program is that participating youth will learn about fishing and gain an appreciation for wildlife conservation through this popular outdoor activity.”
Participants attending the Rocky Hollow clinic will follow Missouri 92 to Old Quarry Rd., then south to Rocky Hollow Park. Participants attending the Kelsey Short clinic should take Missouri 92 and turn north on State Hwy E, then head north on Collins Rd. Entrance will be to the right.
Space is limited for this FREE clinic, so pre-registration is recommended no later than the day prior to the clinic, although registration will be available at the clinic participants should note that space is limited. One parent or guardian must be present with their child during the clinic. To register, contact Jeffries or Pat Iske at Clay County Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites, at 816-407-3400 or email- piske@claycogov.com or cjeffries@claycogov.com.
