2009 Annual Lenexa Waterfest At A New Time |
10th annual Lenexa Waterfest at a new time
Event offers water-related fun, education for families
Lenexa’s tenth annual Waterfest will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug.1, at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, located at 87th Street Parkway and Lackman Road.
Bring the family and enjoy a variety of water-related fun and educational activities including a performance by local bands, Abbey Road and Calypso Bluz, a live bird exhibit by Operation Wildlife, paddle boating, cane pole fishing, waterslides, moonwalks, face painting, water spray by the Lenexa Fire Department (kids, be sure to wear your swimsuit), prizes, educational booths, games and much more.
Waterfest is being held earlier in the day this year to make it more convenient for families, particularly those with young children, to attend. Admission is free.
Free hotdogs are available for the first 1,500 people, courtesy of Hy-Vee. The U.S. Army is supplying free water in a large cooler, so attendees should bring water bottles or other containers to reuse and stay hydrated.
In conjunction with Waterfest, the Lenexa Historical Society will host its annual ice cream social in the park near Legler Barn Museum.
