Embellishments in home decor chosen theme for Mt. Gilead Spring Tea

KEARNEY, Missouri: The 14th Annual Ladies Spring Tea will highlight the use of embellishment in home decorating. Guest speaker Cyndy Gaddis will discuss and demonstrate bow making. Tassel tying will also be one of the demonstrations. Participants will also learn how to use these two embellishments throughout the home. The tea is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m., March 21, at Historic Mt. Gilead Church, Kearney, Missouri.
"We try to offer programming focusing on our mission to preserve local history. Crafts like tassel tying and bow making take us back to a simpler time in Clay County," said Elizabeth Gilliam Beckett, Historic Sites Supervisor. "The settlers in Clay County were very resourceful and didn't let anything go to waste. Bows and tassels provided a way for the reuse of some items to beautify the home."
Registration is limited and the $10 fee includes supplies and teatime. Please contact Clay County Historic Sites for more information or to make reservations at 816-736-8500. "This event has been very popular and is likely to sell out. We strongly suggest reservations be made early to ensure space is available," Beckett said.
Historic Mt. Gilead Church is located two miles west of Kearney, north on Plattsburg Road. For more information or to register for this event, contact Clay County Historic Sites at 816.736.8500.
