More flu shot clinics postponed due to shipping delay
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The American Red Cross of Greater Kansas City has postponed more flu shot clinics due to a vaccine shipment delay.
The Chapter expected a shipment of vaccine before Oct. 1, but the manufacturer has informed the organization that vaccine production has been delayed. As a result, some scheduled clinics are being postponed.
“We have not heard exactly when the shipment will arrive,” said Warren Hawblitzel, director of health and safety for the Greater Kansas City Chapter. “This change has forced us to postpone some clinics, but we plan to reschedule them as soon as the vaccine comes in. The manufacturer has assured us this is a delay, not a shortage.”
This slow down comes at a time when the public has a heightened awareness of the importance of getting the seasonal flu shot. And, the Red Cross has been urging the public to get vaccinated early because of the additional concern about the H1N1 flu virus.
“We are glad the public has been listening, and showing up at our early clinics to get the shot,” said Hawblitzel. “Even with the delay, there is still plenty of time for people to get vaccinated before the worst part of the regular flu season — which is in January.”
The Chapter has postponed clinics until Oct. 24. They are:
